France star Kylian Mbappé has etched his name deeper into football history by scoring twice against Sweden, becoming the second-highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history with 18 goals.

The two-goal performance saw Mbappé surpass Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who scored 16 World Cup goals during his career. Mbappé now trails only Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who leads the all-time list with 19 World Cup goals.

Mbappé has also been in sensational form throughout the ongoing tournament, taking his tally to six goals, drawing level with Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

In addition, the French forward has set another remarkable milestone by becoming the highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup knockout-stage history. His brace against Sweden increased his knockout-stage tally to 10 goals, further cementing his status as one of the greatest players in World Cup history.
