The World’s New Wonder: China’s Chongqing East Railway Station Captivates Global Attention
China has officially opened the Chongqing East Railway Station to passengers, marking the launch of one of the world’s largest passenger railway stations.

Located in Chongqing’s Nan’an District, the station began operations on June 27, 2025, following nearly seven years of construction. The project was first announced in November 2018, with construction commencing later that month.
The massive transport hub features 29 railway tracks and 15 platforms, including 14 island platforms and one side platform. It is designed to accommodate both high-speed and conventional rail services, with dedicated facilities for train storage and maintenance.
The station is a key component of China’s national high-speed rail network under the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” corridor plan. It is expected to strengthen transportation links between western and eastern China, improving regional connectivity and reducing travel times.
The surrounding area is also being developed as a transit-oriented development (TOD) zone, featuring hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, and cultural facilities, transforming the station into a major commercial and transportation hub.
