S.I.U.T Sindh Institute For Needy Ones
The Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) is one of Pakistan’s most important and compassionate health institutes, pioneering free and high-quality medical care for patients regardless of their ability to pay. Founded in 1970 by renowned surgeon and humanitarian Dr. Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi, it began as a small eight-bed urology ward at Civil Hospital, Karachi and has since grown into a major tertiary referral hospital specializing in urology, nephrology, dialysis, organ transplantation, oncology and pediatric care.
SIUT’s core mission emphasizes healthcare as a fundamental right, providing free, state-of-the-art medical services “with dignity” to all patients without discrimination. It opposes the commercialization of medicine and strives to treat every individual respectfully while engaging in public health education, research and technology transfer.
Today, SIUT has grown into one of South Asia’s largest public health care networks, with over 1,600 beds, more than 80 clinical departments, and hundreds of dialysis machines serving thousands of patients daily. It is a leading center for kidney dialysis and transplantation in the region, having performed thousands of kidney transplants and offering continuous follow-up and free lifelong medications for transplant recipients. Emergency services, advanced diagnostics (like CT/MRI and robotic surgery) and specialized cancer treatment are also provided.
In addition to clinical services, SIUT operates educational and training programs—including nursing, medical technology, ethics and biomedical research—helping build healthcare capacity in Pakistan. Its network extends beyond Karachi through satellite centers that reduce travel burdens for rural patients. The institute’s remarkable growth from a humble ward to a comprehensive healthcare system reflects a unique blend of medical excellence, ethical commitment, and humanitarian service to millions of patients over more than five decades
