Bashar Momin: One of the Most Expensive Dramas Ever Made in Pakistan
Bashar Momin is a landmark in Pakistani television because it pioneered a bold, stylized anti-hero archetype and became one of the most expensively produced dramas of its time. It broke the traditional mold of damsel-in-distress narratives by introducing a ruthless, morally gray protagonist.
The drama’s special appeal stems from a combination of groundbreaking factors:
The Iconic Anti-Hero: Faysal Qureshi’s performance as Bashar Momin—a sharp, intimidating, yet deeply protective “angry young man”—is considered iconic. Inspired by characters like The Godfather and Scarface, his complex transformation from a ruthless mobster into a vulnerable, loving husband captivated audiences.
High-Budget Production: Breaking away from typical drawing-room sets, the drama featured lavish mansions, cinematic styling, shadows, and high-end designer wardrobes that gave it a grand, movie-like scale.
International Reach: It made history as one of the first Pakistani dramas to cross borders, airing successfully in India on Zindagi under the title Aks.
Unconventional Storytelling: Written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, the plot tackles bold themes—such as money laundering and toxic family dynamics—without compromising on the deep, emotional romantic tension that Pakistani audiences crave.
The theme song of Bashar Momin was composed by Waqar Ali, and the background music was written by Mohsin Allah Ditta and edited by Faizan Ghori. All songs were produced by Asif Raza Mir and Babar Javed by A and B Entertainment. The song is sung by the talented Nida Arab & Abu Muhammad. The lyrics were penned by Ali Moin. Bashar Momin compromises a total of four songs, including its theme song. All the album credits are separately mentioned and credited by the series management. The music tracks received favourable reviews and received critical acclaim due to the different arrangements of the music sections. Except for theme song of the serial, all of the other music tracks are sung by various artists. The music was composed by Sherry Raza, Zaki, Shahbaz, Raheel, Asim and Saqib, lyrics penned by S.K Khalish, Sherry and Amir Khusro, and sung by Sherry, Raza, Asim, and Saqib, Ali Taji.[18][19]
