Habib University Gathers Philanthropists and Leaders to Rethink Muslim Giving During Ramadan Iftar

Mr. Shahbaz Yasin Malik, member of Habib University’s Board of Directors, hosted an iftar under the theme “𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗲 𝗢𝘄𝗲”. The gathering convened Habib University’s community of Mohsineen, members of the Habib Family, leading philanthropists, business leaders, and corporate partners to reflect on a powerful question: If the Muslim world contributes nearly a trillion dollars annually in zakat and philanthropy, surpassing charitable giving of developed regions such as Europe and United States, why have we not transformed this blossom of hope into a flourishing, enduring forest?
Drawing inspiration from the rich tradition of Islamic philanthropy, rooted in building institutions and supporting scholarship, Habib University invites philanthropists to realign their giving toward higher education and reshape philanthropy for Pakistan’s future. By channeling Pakistan’s generosity towards institutions and Habib University, the event called for strengthening national capacity at scale, transforming short-term relief into lasting impact.
With over 87 percent of its students supported through scholarships and financial aid, Habib University is a real manifestation of this living model of impactful philanthropy can achieve – expanding access to education and cultivating scholars poised to shape Pakistan’s future.
