NED University and Russian Consulate General in Karachi observed Environment and Wildlife Conservation Day

– In an era marked by climate change, habitat loss, and declining biodiversity, conversations around wildlife and animal protection are no longer optionalโ€”they are essential.
– Awareness, education, and cross-sector collaboration are key to protecting our ecosystems and coexisting responsibly with nature.

โ€ŽThe Consul General of Russian Federation in Karachi, H.E. Andrey Fedorov, opened the session with these reminders, right after the two countries national Anthems, symbolizing academicโ€“diplomatic collaboration for a shared vision for environmental and wildlife conservation, and reinforcing the role of universities and diplomatic missions in promoting ecological awareness and environmental stewardship.

Prof. Abdul Ghaffar Memon, Environment Engineering Department-NEDUET, spoke on the Climate Protection, stressing the interdependence of climate action and biodiversity conservation on priority citing alarming statistics and examples. Dr. Ali Hassan Mahmood, Controller Student Affairs & Assoc. Prof. Textile Engineering Department -NEDUET) highlighted the environmental degradation to Animals calling for Animal Protection as an ethical responsibility requiring humane practices.

โ€ŽA special highlight of the event was the Pet Picture Competition, which received enthusiastic participation from NED students as well as entries from the Russian Consulate. The competition celebrated compassion toward animals and everyday humanโ€“animal bonds. โ€Ž Aisha Iqbal (BS English linguistics) won the prize for her beautiful pet photographs featuring her pet ducklings Honey and Olive.

The Consul General presented a souvenir to NEDUET symbolizing appreciation and continued collaboration.

The event was coordinated by the Department of English Linguistics and Allied Studies-NEDUET, Chair. Prof. Sajida Zaki and the Foreign Language Coordinator Ms. Nida Aftab through the support of Director RCSC, Ruslan Prokhorov and Ms. Catherine.
โ€ŽSuch forums help bringing civil society, academia, cultural and diplomatic missions together to work together on issues that concern humanity at large.
