Ashes Series at 3–1 After Melbourne Test as England Clinch First Win
The Ashes series moved to 3–1 after the Melbourne Test, which ended inside just two days. Following the loss of the series, England finally bounced back to register their first win of the campaign, defeating Australia by four wickets.
Chasing a target of 175 runs, England reached the total at the loss of six wickets. Zak Crawley scored 37, Ben Duckett made 34, Jacob Bethell contributed 40 runs, while Harry Brook remained not out on 18 to see his side home.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc, Jhye Richardson and Scott Boland picked up two wickets each. England’s Josh Tongue was named Player of the Match after an impressive performance, claiming seven wickets in the match.
Earlier, Australia were bowled out for 152 runs in their first innings, after which England were dismissed for 110. Despite securing a lead, Australia failed to post a big total in their second innings and set England a modest target of 175 runs, which the visitors successfully chased.
The final Test of the Ashes series will be played next year at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
