HEC Chairman Niaz Ahmad Akhtar Inaugurates Design and E-Commerce Centre at PIFD, Calls for Boosting Value-Added Exports

Lahore, 02 May 2026 — Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar visited the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design today and inaugurated the new Design and E-Commerce Centre, describing it as a key step toward strengthening academia-industry linkages in Pakistan’s creative sector.Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Akhtar appreciated PIFD’s efforts in promoting value-added exports and emphasized integrating design education with e-commerce to enhance Pakistan’s global competitiveness. He said the fusion of creativity and digital platforms will open new international markets for Pakistani designers and artisans.The Chairman commended the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Hina Tayyaba Khalil and acknowledged the contributions of PIFD faculty and staff in advancing quality design education. He also engaged with leading industry representatives, noting that strong collaboration between academia and industry is critical for preparing students for the professional world.Dr. Akhtar reaffirmed HEC’s continued support for initiatives that promote innovation, skills development, and the growth of Pakistan’s creative economy. He said such centers will equip graduates with entrepreneurial skills and help them launch digital brands that showcase Pakistani culture globally.The Design and E-Commerce Centre will provide students with hands-on training in digital marketing, online retail, and brand development, bridging the gap between classroom learning and market demands.
