On World Book and Copyright Day, Aga Khan University libraries in Kenya and Uganda turned a global moment into meaningful conversations on reading and responsible use of knowledge.
In Kampala, students and faculty came together for a week through interactive activities, publisher showcases, and practical sessions on AI tools and research publishing.
In Nairobi, the library team hosted a shared story challenge and a lively “What Are You Reading?” Padlet that engaged the community. The impact extended beyond campus, with book donations to Kenya Medical Training College, Mukurweini Campus, and UMMA University.
Across both campuses, key questions took centre stage: Who owns academic work? What is fair use? How do we navigate copyright in a digital, AI-driven world?
This matters because reading opens minds, and understanding copyright protects the knowledge we create and share.
