UNICEF Delegation Visits USPCAS-W to Strengthen Collaboration on WASH, Climate Change, and Safe Drinking Water Initiatives

Jamshoro, April 21, 2026 — The U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology hosted a high-level UNICEF delegation to explore joint efforts in water, sanitation, hygiene, and climate change.The delegation was led by Ms. Cindy Kushner, Chief of WASH, Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and included Itsuro Takahashi, WASH Manager; Irfan Durani, WASH Officer; Pir Bux, WASH & CEE Officer; and Zahida Jamali, WASH & Climate Change Specialist.The visit focused on identifying avenues for collaboration in research, field surveys, innovative solutions
for safe drinking water and sanitation, and capacity building. The UNICEF team toured USPCAS-W’s state-of-the-art laboratories and reviewed ongoing research projects addressing Pakistan’s critical water and climate challenges.Prof. Dr. Kamran Ansari, Director USPCAS-W, gave a comprehensive presentation on the Centre’s portfolio, key achievements, research contributions, community services, and partnerships with government and non-governmental organizations.An interactive session with faculty members enabled in-depth discussions on current initiatives and future collaboration in water management, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability. Both sides expressed strong interest in launching joint programs to advance WASH services and climate adaptation strategies across Pakistan.USPCAS-W, established with USAID support, continues to serve as a leading hub for applied research, innovation, and policy input in the water sector.
