The Sindh Commission on the Status of Women (SCSW) acknowledges the constructive meeting held with the Inspector General of Police Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, at the Central Police Office Karachi, where a delegation engaged in a detailed dialogue on critical issues concerning the protection of women and children.
The delegation included Advocate Rubina Aman Brohi (Chairperson, Sindh Commission on the Status of Women, Government of Sindh), Qazi Khizr (Co chairperson Human rights commission of Pakistan), Civil society activists includes Amar Sindhu and Dr Irfana Mallah. Senior police officials, including those from operations, investigation, and counter-terrorism units, were also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the tragic case of MBBS Student Fahmeeda Laghari from Mirpurkhas, along with broader concerns regarding the prevention of human rights violations, especially those affecting women and children. The Inspector General briefed the delegation on the measures taken by the police, investigative progress, and actions undertaken so far in the case. The head of the investigation team also provided a comprehensive update on developments and the ongoing inquiry.
Chairperson Rubina Aman Brohi emphasized the importance of one stop protection center for examining the social, educational, familial cases of Gender based Violence particularly among young women. Adv Rubina Aman Brohi stressed the urgent need for coordinated and sustained efforts to address the growing issue of Gender based violence in society.
The Inspector General of Police Mr. Javed Alam Odho assured the delegation that the investigation into the case of Dr. Fahmeeda Laghari would be conducted in a transparent, comprehensive, and impartial manner, ensuring that all relevant individuals are included in the investigative process. The IG further directed that the investigation committee include recommendations aimed at strengthening human rights protections alongside its findings.
The Sindh Commission on the Status of Women reiterates its commitment to working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, civil society, and relevant stakeholders to safeguard the rights of women and children, promote accountability, and ensure justice through transparent and responsive institutional mechanisms.
