Akshay Kumar’s Bhoot Bangla Fails to Impress, Criticized for Weak Horror and Comedy Execution
Superstar Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan’s latest horror-comedy “Bhoot Bangla” has failed to impress audiences, according to critics and early reactions. The film, which was expected to blend horror and comedy, has instead left viewers disappointed and disengaged.
The story revolves around a fictional place called Manglapur, where a mysterious bat-like creature named Vidhashur terrorizes the area by abducting and killing newlywed brides, bringing weddings in the region to a halt.
The plot follows Arjun (Akshay Kumar), a debt-ridden and careless young man who arrives at his sister’s (Mithila Palkar) inherited mansion for renovation work, only to get caught in a series of ghostly and chaotic events.
What begins as a light-hearted comedy quickly loses direction due to a weak script and ineffective humor. Critics note that the film relies heavily on outdated comic formulas, while horror elements are limited to clichéd techniques such as creaking doors and shadow effects, failing to create any real sense of fear.
Despite featuring seasoned actors like Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and veteran performer Asrani (in his final appearance), the dialogues and situations fail to deliver genuine laughter. Akshay Kumar brings his usual energy, but the weak writing undermines his performance.
Actors such as Tabu and Wamiqa Gabbi are also part of the cast but are given little material to work with. The film ends with a drawn-out and tiring climax involving jealousy and betrayal, which critics found underwhelming.
Overall, reviewers suggest that the film itself feels like the “bad dream” referenced in one of its dialogues, making the over-two-hour experience exhausting for viewers.
