SU Syndicate approves promotions, appointments; backs campus development plans in it’s 212th meeting

JAMSHORO: The 212th meeting of the Syndicate of the University of Sindh was held on Saturday at the Video Conference Room, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convention Center.
The meeting was chaired by Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Fateh Marri, who warmly welcomed the distinguished members and expressed his appreciation for their continued guidance and support in strengthening the governance and academic excellence of the University.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Universities and Boards Department Mr. Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Mr. Syed Sohail Akbar Shah, Prof. Asif Kazi, Prof. Dr. Javed Chandio, Prof. Dr. Lachhaman Das Dhomeja, Prof. Dr. Arfana Mallah, Ms. Benazir Junejo, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ahad Abro, Mr. Suleman Ahmed, Dr. Aqeel Ahmed Bhutto, Mr. Umed Ali Rind, Mr. Abdul Rehman Nangraj, Sajid Qayoom Memon and Molana Asghar Dars along with other distinguished members of the Syndicate representing academia, government and civil society.
The Syndicate offered Fateha for the former SU Vice-Chancellor late Mazharul Haq Siddiqui and for the son of Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah, who passed away recently. The members expressed their deep sorrow over the losses and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and strength as well as patience of the bereaved families.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted key developments and ongoing initiatives at the University.
He appreciated the support extended by the Government of Sindh and relevant stakeholders for the repair and rehabilitation of the University’s internal roads and hostel infrastructure, which are critical for improving the overall campus environment and student facilities.
He further informed the Syndicate that the Government of Sindh had also assured its support for the development and strengthening of Dr. N.A. Baloch Model School Hyderabad and Syed Panah Ali Shah Model School Jamshoro, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and outreach.
The Syndicate deliberated on a range of academic, administrative and human resource matters. After due consideration, the meeting approved the recommendations of the Selection Board regarding the promotion of various officers, acknowledging their performance, experience and contributions to the institution.
The Syndicate also granted lien and extraordinary leave to certain faculty members in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations, facilitating their professional growth and engagement in academic and research activities.
Moreover, the Syndicate approved the compulsory retirement of two faculty members.
The Syndicate also approved key academic appointments. It appointed Prof. Dr. Tariq Hussain Umrani as Director, Institute of English Language and Literature and Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Haider Zaidi as Chairman, Department of Public Administration, each for a tenure of three years from the date of their respective appointments.
The members expressed confidence that these appointments would further strengthen academic leadership and contribute to the advancement of teaching, research,
and institutional development.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chair, with members reaffirming their commitment to supporting the University of Sindh in achieving its strategic objectives and maintaining its status as one of the leading institutions of higher education in the country.
