Earth Day Observed in Pakistan: Government Buildings and Major Roads Go Dark for One Hour

Under World Earth Day observance, Pakistan switched off non-essential lights in government buildings across the country for one hour.

According to details, on the Prime Minister’s instructions, and in line with Earth Day initiatives, unnecessary lights were turned off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Constitution Avenue and the Red Zone in Islamabad went completely dark as non-essential lighting was switched off in all major government buildings, including the Parliament House, Senate, President House, and the Supreme Court.

In Punjab, including Rawalpindi and other districts, the Chief Minister’s directives led to the shutdown of non-essential lights in government offices. In Lahore as well, lights on major roads and government buildings were turned off.

A spokesperson for the Punjab government said that more than 500 locations across the province observed the initiative, including commissioner and deputy commissioner offices where lights were switched off.

Streetlights on major roads in key cities were also turned off, while candles were lit at various points including private buildings and the amphitheater in Murree.

Similar measures were taken in cities across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh, where lights were switched off for one hour as part of World Earth Day awareness efforts.
