Why Do We Say “Happy Birthday” Instead of “Happy Birth Date”?
Friends, we always sing “Happy Birthday” on someone’s birthday, but have you ever thought about what it really means? A birthday is the day a person was born, so technically, shouldn’t we say “Happy Birth Date” instead?
It sounds odd, right? Saying “Happy Birthday” literally suggests that the day itself is happy or came into existence when the person was born, which doesn’t quite make sense. The date of birth is what actually comes into play to celebrate the occasion.
So what do you think, friends? Should we really say Happy Birth Date instead of Happy Birthday?
