School of Dental Care Professionals at Dow University of Health Sciences initiates a formal Student Mentoring Program
The School of Dental Care Professionals (SDCP-DUHS) has formally launched a Student Mentoring Program on 30 January 2026 aimed at fostering academic excellence, professional development, and personal growth among students enrolled in BS Dental Hygiene and BS Dental Technology programs. This initiative reflects their commitment to nurturing competent, critically thoughtful, confident, and socially responsible future members of the oral health workforce.
Prof. Dr. Ambrina Qureshi, the Principal of SDCP in her address at the launch mentioned that the mentoring program is structured to provide students with guided academic support, career orientation, psychosocial guidance, and professional role modeling through a structured mentor–mentee relationship. This is the first time when students will have an opportunity to select their Mentors who will be offering individualized guidance to students throughout their academic journey. The program will aim to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world professional practice.
Ms. Sumer Malik, the senior Dental Hygienist who has been given the responsibility of being the Student Mentoring Coordinator, in her presentation discussed about the primary objectives of the program. She added that this program will include supporting students in adapting to academic demands, enhancing learning skills, promoting ethical and professional behavior, strengthening communication and leadership capacities, and identifying students who may require further referrals for any emotional or counselling support at an early stage.
She further explained that under this initiative, students will be assigned mentors at the beginning of the academic year. Regular mentoring sessions—both individual and group-based—will be conducted with goals to discuss academic progress, career pathways, research interests, community engagement, and personal development challenges. Documentation and periodic evaluation of mentoring activities will ensure accountability, continuity, and measurable outcomes.
The leadership of the School of Dental Care Professionals believes that this initiative will play a pivotal role in shaping resilient, motivated, and professionally grounded graduates who are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare system and serve communities with competence and compassion.
