Pakistan Announces T20 World Cup Squad Amid Questions Over Playing 11 and Player Roles

Pakistan has finally announced its T20 World Cup squad, but questions remain over whether the team will participate in the tournament or opt for a boycott, with a decision expected soon.

Salman Agha has been named captain, and the overall squad largely mirrors the team that played in the recent Australia series. Haris Rauf has been dropped from the squad, surprising many fans who believe Pakistan will need a fast bowler of his caliber. Similarly, Sufiyan Muqeem has not been included despite spin-friendly conditions, which has also raised eyebrows. Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq have been selected as spinners.

The key question now is the final playing 11 out of the 15-member squad. All-rounder Saim Ayub, who previously played in that role, will now focus primarily on batting as Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz take over the all-round responsibilities. If Ayub fails to perform, he could also be dropped. Babar Azam may be considered for an opener role, with Salman Agha at number 3 and Fakhar Zaman at number 4. Since Usman Khan will serve as the wicketkeeper, the potential batting order could be:

Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam, Salman Agha, Fakhar Zaman

One or more players from this lineup are likely to be dropped, and the final decision will depend on strategy and conditions.

In terms of bowling, Faheem Ashraf is available as a fast-bowling all-rounder, but his place in the playing 11 will depend on whether both Usman Tariq and Abrar Ahmed are selected, as the team will then primarily rely on the regular fast bowlers. With 2 fast bowlers and 2 spinners, Salman Agha and Saim Ayub will provide additional bowling options.

Finalizing the playing 11 will be a tricky task for the management and captain, but the outcomes of the Australia series may provide valuable insights.
