The Institute of Environmental Studies (IES), University of Karachi, in collaboration with Vertex HSE Pvt. Ltd., successfully concluded the first batch of the Certified Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Professional Program with a prestigious certification ceremony held in Karachi on January 15, 2026. The four-month professional development initiative reflects a strong commitment to promoting workplace safety, professional excellence, and meaningful academia–industry collaboration.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished academicians and professionals, including Prof. Syed Dr. Shabib-ul-Hasan (Director Evening Program University of Karachi and the Senior Professor of Department of Public Administration), Dr. Farrakh Nawaz (Director, IES), Dr. Waqar Ahmed (Student Advisor, IES), Syed Hassaan Habib (Director, Vertex HSE Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Mohsin Ali (Member Syndicate, University of Karachi), Dr. Akmal Waheed (Consultant Cardiologist), University of Karachi), Mr. Tariq Nisar (Senior HSE Professional), and Ms. Farhana Yasmeen (Safety Officer, Rescue 1122 Sindh). Shields were presented to the honored guests in recognition of their valuable contributions.
Speakers emphasized the growing importance of occupational safety and health, the need for well-trained professionals, and the role of such initiatives in aligning academic knowledge with practical industry requirements. Participants were awarded certificates for successful completion of the OSH program, along with specialized trainings conducted in collaboration with Rescue 1122 Sindh, Federal Civil Defence School and the HSE Association of Pakistan.
The University of Karachi and Vertex HSE reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such impactful initiatives to strengthen a culture of safety, health, and environmental excellence across Pakistan, with registrations announced for the Second Batch of the Certified OSH Professional Program.
