#Breastfeeding gives children the healthiest start in life.
At a national consultation hosted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony, Pakistan with UNICEF, the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, called for a nationwide movement to protect and promote breastfeeding as both a public health priority and a responsibility rooted in faith.
More than 90 religious scholars, health experts and minority faith leaders unanimously endorsed a joint declaration urging stronger community mobilisation and tighter regulation of formula milk marketing. Participants highlighted how breastmilk protects newborns from infections and supports early development, while commercial pressures often mislead families and increase financial strain.
Speakers also encouraged practical steps such as using Friday sermons to advocate for breastfeeding, creating breastfeeding friendly spaces, and countering misinformation. By supporting mothers and challenging harmful marketing, Pakistan can give every child a stronger, healthier start.
