DUHS received over 100 innovative ideas for $1 million Hult Prize International

KARACHI : Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has received over 100 innovative ideas that were presented for the prestigious $1 million Hult Prize International Organization (HPIO) award, many of these related to nutrition, health, biotechnology and other relevant healthcare fields.

Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), Dow University of Health Sciences, in collaboration with Hult Prize International Organization, organized an On-Campus Program for the promotion of sustainable development goals in the academic eco-system. Dow University has been making constant efforts to contribute to sustainable development and societal reforms through innovative ideas.

The Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences Prof. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy along with the Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazli Hossain and Director ORIC Prof. Kashif Shafique inaugurated the event.

The diversified collection of innovative ideas focused on health, hygiene, malnutrition, green environment, and technological innovation in the industry. Some examples are Green fuel grills, Micro-green cells, Organic food supplements, and Verdant agriculture, and Microcrystalline Cellulose and Carcinogen identification kits for industrial applications.

The students from the fields of Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public health, Nutrition and other schools presented solutions to the prevailing issues in relevance with the SDGs and societal needs.

The grand finale winner will get a chance to participate in an international competition and win $1 million for the development and implementation of their innovative idea and create an impact in the society.

Vice Chancellor of DUHS Prof. Saeed Quraishy shared his views on the significance of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and their overall impact on society. He emphasized promoting such activities to revolutionize the culture of our academic institutions. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazli Hossain congratulated all the participants and enlightened the students on the importance of innovative thinking. Director ORIC Prof. Kashif Shafique discussed the key areas of focus for the students and faculty, especially those who want to create a change and play their part in building a strong growth-oriented ecosystem.

Later, guests and experts from industry and government evaluated the projects and hailed the efforts of DUHS in the mission towards a better Pakistan.
