Punjab Issues Over 2 Million Driving Licences in Just 18 Days
Under the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, driving license services continue across the province, setting a new record. According to a spokesperson, over the past 18 days, more than 2 million driving licenses have been issued. โNo other province in Pakistan has issued this many licenses to date,โ the spokesperson added, noting that Punjab is the only province providing record licensing facilities to all citizens.
Breaking down the numbers, over 940,000 citizens have obtained learning licenses, while more than 360,000 citizens have acquired fresh regular driving licenses. Additionally, over 700,000 citizens have renewed their learning, regular, and international licenses, and more than 2,000 citizens have obtained international driving permits. Over 7,000 citizens have successfully reissued lost licenses.
The online โhome-basedโ licensing portal has also been widely used, with 1.14 million citizens benefiting from it.
DIG Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, warned, โDriving without a license is a crime,โ while adding that drivers without licenses face heavy fines and strict legal action. He further stated that trained drivers have contributed to a significant reduction in traffic accidents in Punjab.
โTraffic police are raising public awareness about the importance of driving licenses,โ DIG Traffic Nazir said, urging citizens to understand their value. Citizens are encouraged to use service centres, licensing centres, and the online portal to obtain or renew licenses. He also advised citizens to โImmediately download your e-driving license on your mobile device after issuance,โ noting that the e-driving license holds the same legal validity as the physical card.
