KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has successfully completed the installation of a new pipeline to replace an aging 60-inch valve along the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, the KW&SCโ€™s spokesperson confirmed on Monday. The upgrade marks a significant step in the cityโ€™s ongoing efforts to modernize its water distribution network and address long-standing supply challenges in several densely populated neighborhoods.

According to the KW&SC, the repair and installation work was carried out under the direct supervision of Chief Engineer WTM Syed Muhammad Ijaz and Superintending Engineer WTM Tanveer Shaikh, both of whom remained on-site throughout the operation. Their continuous oversight, officials said, ensured that the project progressed smoothly and without interruption.

The Spokesperson for KW&SC added that the work was expedited on the special instructions of Water Corporation CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui. Determined to minimize disruption to the public, Siddiqui directed field teams to complete the repair ahead of the planned schedule โ€” a target they ultimately achieved.

Teams worked around the clock to meet the deadline, with crews operating in shifts to manage the technically demanding replacement of the decades-old valve. The corporation praised its workforce for what it described as an โ€œexemplary display of dedication,โ€ noting that the timely completion would not have been possible without their coordinated effort.

As a result of the upgrade, water supply has now been restored to several key localities, including Saddar Town, Jamshed Road, PIB Colony, and Lines Area. Residents of these areas, many of whom had faced reduced pressure during the repair period, are now receiving water at normal levels, the KW&SC spokesperson said.

The KW&SC further stated that it remains committed to ongoing infrastructure improvements across Karachi to ensure reliable and equitable access to water for all residents.
