Transport Deptt Launches Campaign against intercity transport on over charging fares

KARACHI (April 19): On the directives of Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Transport Department with the coordination of traffic and motorway police has stepped up action against transporters charging excessive fares across the province. In this regard Under the supervision of Secretary Provincial Transport Authority Ameet Nawani, 45 vehicles were checked in Karachi last night in a campaign. The transport officials has imposed Rs.15000 fine on the violation of fixed fares and Rs.97000 were returned to travellers. Similarly, Transport officials has imposed a fine of Rs.5000 on transporters in Shaheed Benazirabad. Report received from DRTA larkana suggested that 30 vehicles were challaned in Larkana.
The officials has fined transporters with
Rs.17100 on violation, while passengers were refunded Rs.7800. In Badin District Regional Transport Authority has imposed fine of Rs.7500 on transporters and refunded Rs.6800 to passengers.The Transport Department incoordination with traffic police and Motorway Police has imposed a fine of Rs 10,500 on the transporters and returned Rs 12,300 to the passengers in an action on the Sukkur -Multan Motorway near Rohari city. The transport department officials also fined transporters in Mithi and other districts of the province on violation of government fixed public transport fares. It may be noted that the transport department has canceled the Eid UL Fitr holidays of it’s officers and officials across the province and it has been decided to keep the offices of the department open for the convenience of the people and redressal of complaint regarding over charging of public transport fares.
