This statement was given by Muhammad Anwar Mianoor, Senior Vice Chairman Rice Exporters of Association of Pakistan (REAP) while addressing to a Press Conference at REAP House, Karachi this afternoon. On the occasion, Former Chairmen REAP Abdul Rahim Janoo, Rafique Suleman, Irfan Shaikh, Members Managing Committee Deepak Kumar Advani, Asif Ali Shaikh, Mahesh Raja Manglani, former President KWGA Anis Majeed, Faisal Anis, and other were also present during this meeting.
Anwar Mianoor said that purpose of this press conference is to raise our voice to government and concerned departments. He said that rice export sector is being neglected by government ministries and rice exporters are facing huge losses. He added that after the COVID, shipping companies have made cartel and blackmailing exporters we have become hostage in their hand. Government is not taking any steps to resolve the issue. It looks like maritime Ministry does not exist. Shipping companies issued CRO and after some time unjustly cancelled them and exporters have to face huge financial losses. He appealed government of Pakistan to arrange complete audit of shipping companies. They are making money by disturbing export sectors. He appealed Prime Minister of Pakistan that he has to take practical steps to tackle this issue, as it cannot be resolved without his personal involvement. He said that we have to make policies for return of empty containers and government should bound shipping companies to cap a fix percentage of empty containers which will be available for export purpose. He drew the attention that our neighbor country India has already taken such steps to facilitate export sectors.
Abdul Rahim Janoo, Ex Chairman REAP said that Ali Zaidi after being selected as Minister is disappeared from his election area and he is also not taking interest to resolve the issues related to Maritime Ministry.
Anwar Mianoor further said that since 2019 a huge sum of $ 9 Million of Pakistani rice exporters is stuck at Beirut Lebanon and despite sending dozen of letters, Governor State Bank of Pakistan is not giving time for meeting with REAP delegation. He humbly appealed Chief of Army Staff Qamar javed Bajwa to intervene in the matter and arrange to resolve this long pending issue and save the 2nd largest trade of Pakistan.
Former Chairmen Rafique Suleman & Irfan Sheikh drew the attention that if matters are not resolved, export industry will see a disaster. They have shown serious concern that our imports are more than double of our exporters, and we are surprised that on return of empty imported containers. Concerned Ministries are not listening to our issues.
